Guidelines

Instructions

• Scope: Apply these rules when helping users with product titles, USPs, descriptions, images, attributes, files, categories, and publication.
• Languages: Content is required in all three languages: NL (Dutch), BE (Dutch/Flemish), FR (French). Every section that has language-specific fields (titles, USPs, descriptions) must be complete in NL, BE, and FR.
• Strictness: Guidelines are mandatory. When you don’t follow our guidelines we won’t accept your products. Incorrect content causes longer approval and delays. When in doubt, prefer the stricter interpretation.
• Output: When giving advice, cite the relevant section (e.g. "Title guidelines", "USPs") and the specific rule (character limits, forbidden characters, etc.).

1. Title guidelines

• Dutch and Flemish titles share the same structure and may be identical.
• French title structure differs from Dutch/Flemish.

Title structure (order of elements)

Requirements

• Provide titles in all languages (NL/BE/FR). All are mandatory.
• Max length: 100 characters for French; 85 characters for NL and BE.
• Use - (space hyphen space) between every word.
• Capitalisation: Only the first letter of the title and the series name may be capitalised.
• No prohibited characters, e.g. | ≥ % ± ⇅.

Don'ts

• Do not put the wrong language in a field (e.g. French in Title NL_NL).
• Do not use English words in titles.
• Do not exceed the character limits above.

2. USPs (Unique Selling Points)

• Minimum 3 USPs per product in all languages (NL, BE, FR).
• USPs are striking product features that give a reason to buy.
• Max 65 characters per USP (exceeding can truncate to half a sentence).

Do's

• Provide at least 3 USPs in every language.
• Use features that are real selling points (e.g. not “colour” as a USP).
• Capitalise only the first word of each USP.

Don'ts

• No words in full capitals.
• No emoticons.
• No dots (.) in USPs.
• Do not write about warranty in USPs.
• Do not put the wrong language in a USP field (e.g. Dutch in fr_BE).

3. Product description

• Minimum 150 characters per language.
• Basic HTML is mandatory (improves readability). CSS-style HTML is not allowed (e.g. changing style via font size or letter type).
• Descriptions must be unique (no duplicate content from other marketplaces or your own site).
• Address the customer as “je” (Dutch/Flemish) or “Vous” (French). Minimum 150 characters, no maximum.

Do's

• Use basic HTML only.
• Write at least 150 characters per language.
• Create Maxeda-unique content for better organic search.
• Describe the product as completely as possible: what it is, what you use it for, maintenance, what’s in the box (or not), legal warranty.
• Repeat the main keywords, the brand, name, and specifications such as dimensions.

Don'ts

• No CSS in HTML (no style/size/lettertype overrides).
• No text about 30-day returns.
• No duplicate content from other sites or marketplaces.
• No promotion of your own website or URLs.
• No emoticons or symbols (e.g. ✱).
• No unverifiable claims (e.g. “environment friendly”); use verifiable wording (e.g. “made from 100% FSC certified wood”).
• No full-capital sentences or words; follow normal capitalisation rules.
• Description must be narrative/story, not only bullet points.

Common errors

• Descriptions not provided in all languages (NL/BE/FR).
• Under 150 characters.
• Only bullet points instead of a story.
• Missing HTML or use of CSS instead of HTML.
• Descriptions differing strongly in length between languages.

4. Images

• At least 2 different images (Image 1 and Image 2). More are preferred (atmospheric, detail, dimensions, etc.).
• Main image (Image 1): pack shot with white background. No text, no logo, no collage of 3 images on one.
• Image 2 and beyond: text allowed only from Image 2 onward; either Dutch + French on the same image, or English only.
• Dimensions: minimum 500×500 px; maximum file size 10 MB.
• Energy label: For applicable categories (see Quick reference), upload the energy label in the attribute; it can then be added as an image automatically.
• If relevant, add a photo including dimensions of the product or a manual.

Do's

• Upload at least 2 different images.
• Main image: pack shot, white background.
• From Image 2: text in Dutch + French on same image, or in English only.

Don'ts

• No grey background on Image 1.
• No emoticons.
• No text on the first image.
• No logo as (or inside) an image.
• No collage of 3 different images as the first image.

Common errors

• Image 1 and Image 2 identical.
• Main image not a pack shot or not on white background; text or logo on Image 1.
• Missing energy label for products that require it (see Quick reference).

5. Product attributes

• Mandatory attributes depend on the product category. Fill all mandatory attributes for the chosen category.
• Non-mandatory attributes: Filling them improves search and filters; recommended.
• UOM & sales content: Mandatory for products like tiles, flooring, paint, wallpaper, wall coverings, etc., to show price per square meter or per liter.
• Line attribute: Use NL_NL Line, NL_BE Line, and FR_BE Line to link products from the same series (shown at the bottom of the product page).
• Numbers: When processing numbers within your attributes, always use a . (period) instead of a , (comma).

Common errors

• Missing mandatory attributes for the category.
• Not filling non-mandatory attributes (reduces findability via filters).

6. Files

• Files (e.g. guides, user manuals) can be attached to products. Max size 15 360 KB per file.
• Allowed file types apply; check platform for current list. Files are not yet shown on the front-end but should go live later.

7. Selecting the right category code

• Brick (product category)

  • Partner must select the correct category. It is linked to the fee structure.
  • Same brick structure as GS1; use the provided link to find the correct brick.
  • Each brick has category-specific attributes; filled attributes are shown on the product page.
  • Content team checks products and brick assignment after upload.

• Web category

  • Assigned by the Maxeda content team and determines placement on the website.

8. Mandatory information

1. Energy labels
   For: air conditioners, gas stoves, wood pellets, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers, ovens, hoods, light fixtures with integrated bulb/LED, light sources, heat pumps.
   Add via the “Energy label” attribute (link; size requirements as for images).

2. Wood certification
   For products containing wood (FSC/PEFC): origin of wood, PEFC or FSC indicator. Enter in the relevant attributes.

3. Hazardous goods
   Provide required hazardous-goods information when applicable.

9. Fields we don't use

• Mirakl product title and Mirakl description are not used for the live website (internal use only).
• Short description: not used internally and not displayed; can be left empty.

10. Product publication

• Product data is only checked when all mandatory fields are completed for both channels (Praxis NL & Brico BE). Otherwise products are not checked.
• Valid data: When all country-specific fields, mandatory fields, and language requirements are complete and compliant, the product is marked “valid data” in Mirakl. Only products with “valid data” are reviewed by the content team (weekly). If approved, the product goes live the same day once an offer is added. If rejected, the content team gives feedback in Mirakl (question mark icon next to the product).
• Invalid data: If mandatory fields are missing, the product stays in “invalid data”. The content team only reviews “valid data”. Sellers must check both “invalid data” and “valid data”. Each channel can have invalid data independently; using the “all channels” filter is recommended so evaluation is based on products that appear in both channels with valid data.

11. Content vs offers

• Content: Information that creates or updates the product (titles, USPs, description, images, attributes). Managed in Catalog manager.
• Offers: Price and stock attached to an existing product. Managed in the Offers (price and stock) tab.
• Channels: NL (Praxis) and BE (Brico). For manual uploads, content is uploaded once; offers must be uploaded for both channels. With an integrator, content and offers must be uploaded for both channels. For country-specific cases, contact marketplace@diymaxeda.com.
